Education and learning
Pre-school
Family Hub teams are committed to helping young children and their families have fun and learn through play, so that when the time comes to start school, both you and your child enjoy this milestone.
We have two sessions open to everyone – Under Ones and Stay and Play.
These regular play and learning sessions are led by our trained volunteers who are supported by workers and are held on a first come first served basis until the session is full.
Trained workers also offer the Let’s Play programme in family homes, helping to support parent with low cost, no cost play and learning ideas at home.
Our early years practitioners and teachers have put together lots of simple ideas on things to do at home to help your little one learn as you play (Notts Help Yourself website)
We understand the importance of children being ready for school, we can help with getting into a routine, becoming a little more independent, learning to share, listening to stories and playing with other children. We also work with childcare settings, providing exciting Forest Schools activities.
We know that lots of parents worry about their child’s speech, language and communication skills. Working closely with the Healthy Families Team we are able to support young children through Little Talkers Groups and the Home Talk programme (delivered by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust).

Starting School for the first time
Starting ‘Big School’ can be an exciting but nerve-wracking time for parents and little ones. Parents and carers can help prepare their child be ready for school. This could include making sure they can hold a pencil, speech and language, and being toilet trained.
Family Hub teams can help families prepare their children and we offer a range or groups or individual support to help with things like potty training.
