How to write accessible web content
Write accessible content so everyone, including people with disabilities, can access and understand council information online.
This general guidance applies to content created for web pages and online documents, including Word and PDF files.
It is for anyone who writes, edits, or publishes content for our websites. It covers three key areas:
- Headings and structure β help people find and understand information
- Readability β make content easy to understand, including for screen reader users
- Hyperlinks β make links clear and understandable
Accessible web content:
- is easy to understand and use for more users
- helps people find and use information
- works on different devices and with assistive technology
- provides alternatives for non-text content
- helps meet legal and accessibility requirements
