About us
Nottinghamshire youth justice service works across the county (excluding the city) and is made up of three locality teams and one central hub. Our multi-disciplinary teams bring together key professionals to give the children we work with the best support possible.
Some of these professionals are from children’s social care, the police, the probation service, the NHS, child adolescent mental health services and the careers service Futures. We also commission specific providers to help us deliver more specialised services, including Change, Grow, Live, a substance misuse service; Remedi, a reparation and victim service; and TAAS, an appropriate adult service.
The overall aims of every youth justice service are to:
- prevent children entering the criminal justice system.
- reduce the frequency and rate of re-offending by children who are already within the youth justice system.
- keep the numbers of children experiencing custody – either on remand or as a sentence of the court – to a minimum.
We take guidance from two main bodies, the HM Inspectorate of Probation and the Youth Justice Board. The HM Inspectorate of Probation promotes excellence in youth justice services, and carries out inspections across England and Wales. The Youth Justice Board for England and Wales is a non-departmental public body created by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to oversee the youth justice system for England and Wales.
