Can you help inspire a young person?

The Careers and Enterprise Company works with businesses of all sizes to ensure they find the right future talent for their organisation and offer every young person the opportunity to explore their options and succeed in the world of work.

Encounters with employers bring the world of work to life for young people. Research shows that a young person who has 4 or more encounters with an employer is 86% less likely to be unemployed or not in education or training, and can earn up to 18% more during their career.

For more information about joining the network and connecting with schools and colleges to help prepare young people for the fast-changing world of work, visit the website.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships allow you to bring new talent through the ranks and train your team with the skills they need to help your business succeed.

The apprenticeship levy is already giving employers like Nottinghamshire County Council the opportunity to invest in high quality training, helping to get the skilled workforce needed to thrive, succeed and grow our business. The Council is now able to work with other employers, supporting them to take on new apprentices and to develop existing employees. Kickstart Scheme

The Kickstart Scheme is a £2billion scheme aimed at getting people under the age of 24 into work. The scheme is open for applications from employers regardless of size. It involves the creation of new, fully subsidised jobs for young people. The six month placements are open to those aged 16 - 24 who are claiming Universal Credit and are at risk of long-term unemployment

The first placements are likely to be available from November and young people will be able to access them via the Job Help website

There will also be extra funding to support young people to build their experience and help them move into sustained employment after they have completed their Kickstart funded job.

Employers will receive funding for 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum auto-enrolment pension contributions.

Businesses can apply to the scheme by visiting the gov.uk website.

The Job Support Scheme

The Job Support Scheme is designed to protect viable jobs in businesses who are facing lower demand over the winter months due to COVID-19, to help keep their employees attached to the workforce. The scheme opened on 1 November 2020 and will run for 6 months. The company will continue to pay its employee for time worked, but the cost of hours not worked will be split between the employer, the Government (through wage support) and the employee (through a wage reduction), and the employee will keep their job.

The Government will pay a third of hours not worked up to a cap, with the employer also contributing a third. This will ensure employees earn a minimum of 77% of their normal wages, where the Government contribution has not been capped.

Employers using the Job Support Scheme will also be able to claim the Job Retention Bonus if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Plan for Jobs
