What accessible content is

Responsibility for making content accessible

Everyone who writes, creates, or commissions content for Nottinghamshire County Council websites is legally responsible for making it accessible. This includes content you:

  • write or create yourself
  • commission external organisations to create on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council

Minimum accessibility standards

All content must meet minimum accessibility standards. While no content can be fully accessible to everyone, you must make it as accessible as possible.

If someone cannot access your content, provide it in an alternative format on request, for example:

  • contact details for someone who can help
  • an Easy Read document
  • a British Sign Language (BSL) version

For guidance on what to do if content cannot be made fully accessible immediately, go to What content needs to be made accessible.

Benefits of making content accessible

You should aim to make all content accessible, even if it is not intended for publication. Accessible content:

  • helps everyone use and understand information more easily
  • ensures people you share it with can access it, including those with disabilities
  • may be needed to deliver services in the future
  • builds good habits and confidence in digital accessibility
