Government grants available for off-street electric vehicle charging infrastructure

There are various sources of government funding available to encourage and promote electric vehicle usage in and around Nottinghamshire, whether you are looking to install electric vehicle infrastructure at home or work.

 

Electric vehicle charging infrastructure at home:

Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargepoint Grant

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargepoint Grant can help towards the cost of having an EV chargepoint socket installed at your property. You can apply for the grant if:

  • you own and live in a flat, or you rent any residential property
  • your home has its own private off-street parking space
  • you own an eligible vehicle

The grant covers up to 75% of the cost to buy and install a chargepoint socket, up to £350 per grant.

Electric vehicle chargepoint and infrastructure grants for landlords:

 There are two types of grants available to landlords for installing electric vehicle chargepoints at properties:

  • an Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargepoint Grant
  • an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (EV) Grant

EV Chargepoint Grant

An EV Chargepoint Grant can help towards the cost of installing electric vehicle chargepoint sockets.

The grant covers up to 75% of the cost to buy and install a chargepoint socket, up to £350 per grant.

Each financial year, you can get up to:

  • 200 grants for residential properties
  • 100 grants for commercial properties

These can be across several properties and installations or for one property.

EV Infrastructure Grant

An EV infrastructure grant can help towards the cost of wider building and installation work that may be needed to install multiple chargepoint sockets.

Depending on number of parking spaces the work covers, you can get up to £30,000 or 75% off the cost of the work.

Electric vehicle charging infrastructure at work:

Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure grant for staff and fleets

Small to medium sized businesses (no more than 249), charities and public sector organisations can get grants to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure in their commercial car parks.

The grant covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints, capped at a maximum of £15,000 per grant. Businesses can get up to:

  • £350 per socket
  • £500 per parking space enabled with supporting infrastructure

The installed infrastructure must support a minimum of 5 parking spaces with at least one working chargepoint.

The installer will claim the grant on behalf of the business.

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) offers a voucher-based funding scheme, open to businesses, charities and public sector organisations that meet the applicant and site eligibility criteria.

The grant covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV charge points (inclusive of VAT), capped at a maximum of:

  • £350 per socket
  • 40 sockets across all sites per applicant – for instance, if you would like to install them in 40 sites, you will have 1 socket available per site
