What is happening at Lowdham roundabout? 

The scheme will widen the approach lanes to the roundabout as well as the roundabout itself, creating two circulatory lanes on the roundabout to help ease congestion. 

Once the scheme is complete, vehicles approaching the roundabout from the A612 Nottingham Road will benefit from three lanes, with one of these being a dedicated left turn lane onto the A6097 Epperstone bypass towards Epperstone and Oxton.

Drainage will be improved through the creation of a new attenuation pond, and additional planting will improve biodiversity. 

New crossings will also be installed including on the northbound carriageway of the A6097 Epperstone bypass to improve connectivity into Lowdham village. 

The speed limit will be reduced to 30mph on all approaches to the roundabout once the scheme is complete to improve road safety.

When are the works happening and how long will they take? 

Works on the scheme will start on 20 September and will last for just over a year.

Will there be full closures of the A6097, and if so, when will these be?

We are in the process of finalising our work programme and traffic management schedule and residents and motorists will be made aware of any closures in advance.

Will Main Street be used as a diversion route? 

We know that residents are concerned about congestion on Main Street during the works on Lowdham Roundabout. Any diversions we put in place during the works will use the strategic road network where possible when the A6097 is closed.

I’m worried that the works will make an already congested Main Street worse. What are you doing to do about this?

We expect that there will be some increase in local traffic during the works. We will keep the diversion strategy under review throughout the works should displaced traffic cause traffic issues in Lowdham village.

Will the enlarged roundabout and slip roads increase congestion or accident risk?

We have developed the layout of the new roundabout using traffic modelling. This is subject to an independent Road Safety Audit at each design stage.

Can we see what the two lanes off the roundabout towards the A612 (Southwell) will look like?

The ‘two lanes merge into one’ sign towards Gunthorpe gives late warning. Can this be moved as part of the scheme?

This signage sits outside the scheme boundary but we have passed this request on to the Via Network Management team who will review this.

Will the enlarged roundabout erode green belt land?

The scheme has required the purchase of third party land, however this has been kept to a minimum. The scheme is subject to planning conditions covering landscaping and Biodiversity Net Gain. As part of the works, we will be creating a new attenuation pond to improve drainage and additional plating will improve biodiversity.

I’m concerned that the new scheme will increase flood risk in Lowdham. What are you doing about this?

A drainage strategy is included within this scheme and this is designed so that surface water run off is controlled and that discharge rates are not increase above existing levels. This was assessed as part of the planning application.

I live close to the roundabout. What will I see once the scheme is complete?

Cross sections and landscaping proposals have been developed for properties on Nottingham Road and these can be shared with residents. Please contact [email protected] to request this.

I live near to the roundabout and think that these works will affect the value of my property. What is the process if the value is affected?

Claims for depreciation caused by the use of a new or altered highway are dealt with under Part 1 of the Land Compensation Act 1973. You can contact the county council for guidance on eligibility and the claims process.

I can see that new lighting is proposed. Will this be on all night?

If you live close to the roundabout, you can request a lighting drawing by emailing [email protected]. The lighting design for the scheme follows highway standards which limit obtrusive light onto adjacent properties. Operating hours are to be confirmed by the design team. 

I am a sole carer for elderly relatives and may need access to a property at any time, including overnight.

Will there be help with additional cleaning caused by construction dust?

Dust suppression forms part of the site environmental controls (CEMP), to mitigate and reduce dust. Any concerns about dust affecting properties should can be raised with the project team so they can be addressed directly.

Can the footpath between No.4 and No.6 Nottingham Road be re-routed behind the properties?

The suggestion to retain the temporary footpath and link it behind the properties to the existing route has been logged for review. Any permanent change to a public right of way would require a separate diversion order.

Can the speed limit on Nottingham Road be reduced to 30mph, with cameras?

We recently carried out a speed survey and this data is being reviewed. As part of the scheme, the speed limit on all approaches to the roundabout will be reduced to 30mph. Camera enforcement is a matter for Nottinghamshire Police.

I run a local business, how will I be told about closures affecting trade?

Businesses on the affected corridor will be contacted directly with programme milestones and closure dates, and given advance notice of any changes. You can also sign up to our WhatsApp channel for updates on road closures and construction as well as our A614/A6097 emailme bulletin.
