This fairly short walk takes us from the pretty village of Besthorpe, through the parish of Meering, to the River Trent. Meering is the only parish in the county with no residents!

Directions

  1. From Holy Trinity Church, take the signed footpath to its right. Cross a stile to reach another one crossing the River Fleet. After crossing this second stile follow the path right along the edge of the field to reach the next stile.

  2. Follow the path as it passes by the Fleet to reach another stile. Soon after crossing this you will reach the edge of a field. Turn left along the edge of the field and continue until you reach a surfaced track. Turn right onto the track to follow this path uphill. Carry straight on at the brow of the hill, passing a disposal site on your right.

  3. After passing the site you will reach a flight of quite steep steps, descend these with care and go over a stile. Turn left through a gate and follow the waymarked footpath right all around the edge of this field. The path then passes through a five bar metal gate and up onto a bank. Pass over a stile and onto the floodbank.

  4.  Follow this path along the river for approx 3/4 mile. After passing a surfaced lane you will reach a clappergate with a signed footpath. Go through the gate and turn left along the path with the hedge on your left. At the bottom of the field turn left through the gap to follow a double-hedged track. Upon reaching the surfaced track (Trent Lane) turn right and follow this back into Besthorpe.
