Care contribution calculator

Most people will have to contribute something towards the cost of their adult social care and support.

  • If you have savings and capital over £23,250 you will be asked to contribute the full amount of the cost of your support. This is called being a self-funder. If you are confident you have over £23,250 in savings or capital, you can declare yourself a self-funder, which prevents the need for a Financial Assessment.
  • If you have savings between £14,250 and £23,250, you will be asked to make a contribution toward the cost of your support from your income and capital.
  • If you have savings or capital below £14,250, you will be asked to contribute from your income only.
You can use our Care Contribution Calculator to give you an indication of the contribution you may be asked to make.

You will need

    • Financial information about your income, savings and capital.

If you are part of a couple your combined income, savings and capital should be added together. The Care Contribution Calculator will then divide this by two to calculate the amount we will use to determine what savings you have. If you have more than one account for each of the types listed, please add the balances together and enter the total figure.

What will happen next

Based on the information you provide about your income, savings and capital the Care Contribution Calculator will give you an estimate of the financial contribution you may be asked to make towards any adult social care and support that is arranged for you by the Council.

The financial contribution that the Care Contribution Calculator gives is intended as a guide only and is not confirmation of the exact contribution you may be asked to make towards the cost of your care – this would be confirmed following an assessment with you of your care and support needs and will depend on a number of things, including whether you are eligible for social care, the type and amount of support you need, and on the outcome of a Financial Assessment.

We may be able to support you to meet your care and support needs without the need to consider paid for care.
