Newly Qualified Social Workers

In Nottinghamshire, we offer the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) for all newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) working in child and family social work.

We work hard to deliver a comprehensive ASYE programme which allows NQSWs to consolidate their degree learning, develop capability and strengthen their professional confidence in a workplace environment.

To ensure all NQSWs can take advantage of all that the ASYE programme has to offer, we ensure NQSWS have a protected caseload throughout their first year.  NQSWs completing the ASYE programme are assigned a practice mentor who regularly meets with them and offers additional support and reflective supervision.

We provide a bespoke programme of learning, development and training, as well as additional study and support time. We believe it is very important to provide opportunities for NQSWs to meet with their peers in order to share their experiences and learn from each other.

Throughout the ASYE programme the NQSW, practice mentor, and manager keep a portfolio of progress to highlight the NQSW's learning and development as well as demonstrating how they meet the requirements of the Knowledge and Skills for child and family social work [hyperlink].

In addition to the programme itself, NQSWs will also be able to access a wide range of other training courses (classroom based and e-learning) and practice consultant workshops that help broaden understanding and skills.
