Animal health
Trading Standards is responsible for enforcing animal health legislation within Nottinghamshire. The legislation is designed to protect farm animals.
In order to fulfil this responsibility, we:
- carry out risk-based inspections of farms
- carry out risk-based inspections of animal by-product premises
- respond to complaints in relation to animal health concerns
- advise farmers on how they can comply with the legislation
The aims of this work are to:
- protect animals at gatherings/shows, at livestock markets, during importation, on farms and during their transportation
- protect human health from diseases caught from animals
- prevent animal diseases

Notifiable diseases
If you suspect a notifiable disease outbreak, please call Defra Rural Services Helpline on 03000 200 301. Failure to do so is an offence.
