Place Investment Team

Welcome to Nottinghamshire County Council’s Place Investment Team.

Inclusive approach

In line with the council’s vision for a healthier, prosperous, and greener future the team aspire to foster an inclusive culture in our people and place so we can:

  • drive investment in sustainability and climate change adaptation
  • make Nottinghamshire assets the best they can be
  • deliver mutual benefits through the team’s placemaking projects
  • maximise value and impact through strong cross programme links with internal and external partnerships.

Sustainable green growth

As detailed in The Nottinghamshire Plan  we work to raise the national and international profile of Nottinghamshire and create the right conditions for investment in our places and economic growth. Nottinghamshire is a thriving location with a wealth of investment, development and business opportunities for any size or type of business. We work in partnership to:

  • support growth in sustainable homes and linked assets for travel, education, health, and jobs
  • enable healthy places that are beneficial to the economy, environment, people, and place
  • develop resilient places through sustainable grey, blue and green infrastructure, and associated behaviour changes
  • seek place investment to increase biodiversity net gains, protect food, air and water supplies, and enable healthier and sustainable travel between assets.

The county council works with the Environment Agency and partners from local to regional level to develop the shared strategic approach to place investment. This is set to increase in value and impact with the support of the new East Midlands Combined County Authority.

Nottinghamshire is investing in sustainable and resilient infrastructure. This includes over £421 million into local assets for thriving people, business, and places to be proud of, pus £505 million for natural solutions and energy.

  • Find out about Place Investment Projects across Nottinghamshire in our Place Prospectus. The Council has also worked with the Environment Agency to develop the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire ‘Adaptive Investment For Growth Report’.

The report provides scorecards of environmental equalities and increasing climate change risks across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. It identifies the common causes and increasing consequences and offers an assessment of shared climate change adaptation needs for investment. It invites a better understanding of how climate change:

  • accelerates and exacerbates a range of existing environmental risks
  • worsens impacts on public heath, liveability and local economic productivity
  • increases sustainability constraints, potential global shocks and threats to future prosperity.

Net Zero infrastructure

Nottinghamshire is investing in sustainable and resilient infrastructure. This includes over £421 million into local assets for thriving people, business, and places to be proud of, pus £505 million for natural solutions and energy.

Strong communities

We work collaboratively with districts and boroughs to deliver the following place investment programmes:

  • UKSPF (Place and Communities)
  • Town Deals
  • Long Term Plans for Towns

This programme is providing communities and businesses with specific improved social fabric, heritage, and cultural assets to facilitate inclusive opportunities that are engaging and provide a stronger economy and positive mental, and physical, health outcomes.

Energy security

The team is working in partnership to deliver growth in retrofit, hydrogen and renewables investments, heat networks and their supply chains. Healthy living, low energy use & transition to a net zero economy.

With a long and consistent track record of enabling collaboration on tackling fuel poverty, we continue to:

  • support our most vulnerable residents with home retrofit grant installations and a regional retrofit skills pilot scheme
  • build on the momentum of our current projects and partnerships both across Nottinghamshire and the combined county region, and deliver projects that build confidence in and increase the uptake of home retrofit for all residents.

We are currently exploring opportunities to deliver the best support to our local businesses and residents for growth in renewable energy. We are exploring areas such as hydrogen storage and use, renewables investments, heat networks, and supply chains to enable health living, low energy use and transition to a net zero economy.
