About this course
Despite, all the changes in technological, books still play an important role in our lives. The aim of this course is to introduce learners to basic techniques and principles of book-binding.
We look at single section binding and Multi-section bindings over the course,
Within the course learners will gain an understanding of;
- Introduction book binding and some of the terminology used
- Have an understanding of grain of paper
- Develop & hand eye coordination and improve fine motor skills – dexterity, from creating folds
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
- Create folded book from one sheet of paper
- Understand paper grain and be able to identity the grain of paper or board in use.
- Able to make signatures for book/journal
- Able to make Pamphlet soft cover book
- Use Stitch Pamphlet Bookbinding – 3 and 5 hole
- Able to make Multi-section Binding
- Look at methods of creating book cloth and make some examples
Equipment
- Selection of Papers and boards
- Book cloth (option 1 - fabric and bond web, option 2 – method will be given so can be completed at home (glass mat, fabric and paste)
- Darning Needle
- Thread – must me strong might need to be condition with bees wax
- Awl
- Pencil and eraser
- Metal Ruler
- Set square
- Cutting mat
- Knives (craft knife)
- Set square
