Local Plan timetable
As the Minerals and Waste Planning Authority, we are responsible for producing Minerals and Waste Local Plans. We develop separate Minerals and Waste Plans, with the Waste Plan developed jointly with Nottingham City Council.
Below provides the latest news and timetable for Local Plan making by Nottinghamshire County Council.
Minerals Local Plan
The Nottinghamshire Minerals Local Plan was adopted in March 2021. As explained in our statement on the Review of the Minerals Local Plan [PDF], the government is changing how Local Plans are prepared, with new Regulations for Plan making expected to be laid in early 2026.
Within the governments plan-making regulations explainer it is made clear that plans adopted 5 or more years ago will need to prepare a new Local Plan under the new plan-making system. Since the Minerals Local Plan was adopted in 2021, this means that the Council will need to begin to prepare a new Minerals Local Plan.
Waste Local Plan
The Nottinghamshire and Nottingham Waste Local Plan was adopted in September 2025 by both us and Nottingham City Council.
Biodiversity Net Gain Supplementary Planning Document was adopted by the County Council in September 2025.
Timetable for Local Plan making
Once the government has laid the new plan-making regulation and the Council is ready to commence work on the Minerals Local Plan, the timetable of this process will be published on this webpage. This timetable will replace the current Local Development Scheme published.
The latest Local Development Scheme [PDF] was approved in January 2025.
