The countdown is on to a Bank Holiday weekend sizzler to celebrate the fifth Nottinghamshire Day.
Nottinghamshire Day, which is celebrated on 25 August, was launched in 2021 to celebrate our historic county’s unique identity, rich heritage and local traditions as well as everything it has to offer.
Speaking ahead of the special day, Nottinghamshire County Council’s Madam Chairman, Councillor Jan Goold, encouraged residents to play their part in celebrating Robin Hood County.
Cllr Goold said: “Nottinghamshire Day provides us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything which is great about our county and its people, whether it’s our fascinating heritage and world-famous legends, well-loved tourism sites, market towns and nightlife or the top-class sports grounds and teams.
“It has become a highlight of the county’s calendar, and I cannot wait to celebrate it as we once again showcase our talent, businesses and attractions to really show off what makes our home so special.”
As part of the celebrations, there will be a free-to-attend community event on Saturday 23 August as part of the final weekend of the Robin Hood Festival in the heart of the world-famous Sherwood Forest.
Visitors will be able to enjoy an actioned-packed day of activities, including archery and axe throwing and take part in a game of ‘Hunt the Outlaw’.
There will also be viewing falconry displays, as well as a display from crowd-favourites, the Sherwood Outlaws.
Cllr Goold added: “I hope everyone has a fantastic time at the Robin Hood Festival and I am sure it will encourage residents and visitors to find out more about Nottinghamshire and why it’s such a great place to live, work and visit.”

Organisers are urging motorists to follow signs via the A616 rather than going through Edwinstowe village due to the volume of traffic expected, while anyone travelling by bus can find out online.
Residents are also being encouraged to play their part by helping to get #NottsDay trending again on social media on Monday 25 August.
They can share photos of their favourite places in Nottinghamshire, whether it a much-loved walking route or their family’s go-to place for a day out and simply use #NottsDay when posting on social media.
