How we work

The way that the 'political machine' of the County Council works is similar to how Parliament works.

There are 66 elected Councillors (or Members) in the County Council and all elected Councillors sit in Full Council - a major

County Councillors are usually members of a political party (but they can be independent). The party with the most Councillors becomes the ruling party. The Council operates an Executive Leader and Cabinet model, which means that decisions are taken by the Cabinet and individually by Cabinet Members, as well as by authorised officers.
