An Introduction to Green Wood Working and Spoon Carving Course
INTRODUCTION TO GREEN WOOD WORKING & SPOON CARVING COURSE Join Green Scene Forest School and The Wobbly Bodger (Gary Joynt) of Major Oak Heritage Crafts for an introduction to green wood working and spoon carving course. This course will take place in a beautiful outdoor woodland setting on the edge of Sherwood Forest over three Saturdays in June, where you will learn about: - Safe tool use, maintenance and sharpening - How to carve a Spoon - Make a bowl - Make a small rustic coffee table or stool - If we have time learn to make a fan carved bird or whittle a Greenman walking stick - You will learn about this in a relaxed and fun woodland environment on the edge of Sherwood Forest - You will take home the items that you have made as a keep-sake or gift - All tools, materials and refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits) will be provided This informal course is aimed at adults aged 19+ years living in Nottinghamshire and close to the Nottinghamshire borders (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire). This course is suitable for both beginners and advanced learners. We will be introducing learners/participants to traditional green wood working techniques using a shave horse and pole lathe, knives and chisels to carve or whittle spoons, bowls, rustic furniture, carved fan birds and greenman / wood spirit walking sticks. These courses are apart of Green Scene’s Community & Adult Learning programme run in partnership with Inspire, Nottinghamshire County Council and funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency. These courses are very hands on, informative and value for money. Suitable for both beginners and more advanced learners.
