About this course
This course celebrates the contribution that horses made to the areas around Sherwood Forest. From ‘Robin Hood’s rock cut stable to the opulent Rufford Abbey Courtyard, horses have left their marks on the buildings that confined them. The horses of the aristocracy have left us a legacy of highly architectural stables while working horses incised their own type of graffiti on the buildings that outlived them. These ‘oat- powered’ engines drove every aspect of life in the 18th and 19th Centuries and their stories will be told through the fascinating historic equestrian buildings around Sherwood Forest. Prize-winning equestrian buildings researcher and professional horse-behaviour specialist Janine Buckley, MA animates the equestrian landscape of Sherwood Forest through her cast-list of farm horses, pit ponies, race and carriage horses.
