Silversmith Stacking Ring Workshop
Come and enjoy a creative session, and learn the art of traditional silversmithing. Guided by our expert tutor Jo, you will get hands-on with the tools and materials and create a gorgeous stacking ring handcrafted by you. All in the relaxing setting of our craft barn with views overlooking the open countryside of Hanwell Wine Estate. By the end of your session, you will have made: Triple 1.5mm stacking ring – One to be set with a semi-precious stone. What you will learn: Introduction to the tools and materials and how to handle them. Techniques including; hammering to add texture, shaping and sawing. Soldering to create a layered look. How to set a stone. Adding the finishing touch of polishing. What is included: – Everything is included, all tools and materials, plus refreshments and 2 course homemade lunch with a glass of local wine. Nothing to bring, just yourself. Who is the workshop for- Perfect for beginners or people with experience. Outline of your session: Arrival with refreshments. Welcome and meet your tutor, Jo. Introduction to tools and materials. Get hands-on and learn the techniques of sawing, hammering and shaping. Refreshment break with snack Practice your design on a piece of copper. Two-course homemade lunch is served with a glass of local wine. Put into practice everything you learnt in the morning. Refreshment break with snack Touch up and polish your pieces ready for home time to show off your fantastic creations. About your tutor Jo Fleming An experienced jewellery designer/maker, Jo attending her first craft fair in 1989 with beaded jewellery, but for the last 15 years has predominantly used traditional silversmithing and wire wrapping techniques to create handcrafted pieces in sterling silver and copper, sometimes including semi-precious stones. Jo’s style is influenced by art nouveau, along with inspiration from the textures and shapes of the natural world. To ensure the quality of your personal experience, group size will be limited to 8. (Please note: a minimum number of 4 bookings is required in order for the session to go ahead) Suitable for children aged 16 years and over must be accompanied by a paying adult.
