We are consulting on the proposed admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools for the 2028 to 2029 school year.

Admission arrangements explain how school places are allocated when there are more applications than places available.

We are inviting parents, carers, schools and other interested parties to share their views before the arrangements are finalised.

In line with the School Admissions Code, the full proposed admission arrangements will remain available on this website throughout the consultation period.

Why we are consulting

We are responsible for setting the admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools in the county.

The School Admissions Code requires admission authorities to consult when they propose changes to their admission arrangements. This consultation gives parents, carers, schools and other interested groups the opportunity to comment on the proposed arrangements before a final decision is made.

Schools that set their own admission arrangements

Some schools are responsible for setting their own admission arrangements. These include:

  • academies
  • foundation schools
  • studio schools
  • trust schools
  • voluntary aided schools.

These schools must run their own consultation if they propose changes to their admission arrangements.

Coordinated admission scheme

All local authorities must publish a coordinated admission scheme. This explains how school applications are processed during the normal admissions round and how late applications are handled.
