Competitions for children

Entries for our design a flag, trophy and cycling jersey competitions are now closed.

It's that time of year again when we want children to get involved and show their creative side ahead of this year's Tour of Britain!

We've got five great competitions for children aged between 4 and 11 to enter, and prizes will include family fun activities at Rufford Abbey, Sherwood Forest and Holme Pierrepont County Parks, VIP tickets to the Nottinghamshire stage of the Tour of Britain and depending on the competition entered, the chance to come along to the start or finish of the race to see the designs in real life!

We have also got a great resource for teachers and schools to use to tell children more about the UK's biggest cycling race and some of the interesting facts behind it!

Is your child or a child in your class a budding author? Do they like to write? We've got just the thing for them as we're looking for short stories about a cycling adventures as part of our short story competition. 

Stories must be no longer than 500 words and will be judged in the following age categories: 

  • 4 - 7-years-old
  • 8 - 11- years-old 

We will choosing a winner in each age category.

What will each winner receive?

  • The chance to wave their story read over the tannoy at the Nottinghamshire stage,
  • a designed copy of their winning story,
  • a prize for a family activity at either Rufford Abbey, Sherwood Forest or Holme Pierrepont Country Park,
  • 2 x VIP tickets to the Nottinghamshire stage.

Simply email entries to competitions@nottscc.gov.uk with the subject line as Tour of Britain and a panel of judges will shortlist entries before choosing two winners. Entries can be written by hand on the activity sheet or typed up on the computer.

What if fun, a great way to work as a team and a great use of recycled materials? The answer is our cycling sculpture, display or land art competition! We're challenging schools across Nottinghamshire to come together in their class groups to get creative with recycled materials you might find around the home, so what will your class build? 

What will the winning class receive?

  • A class prize courtesy of Notts Outdoors

Simply email photos of entries to competitions@nottscc.gov.uk with the subject line as Tour of Britain and a panel of judges will shortlist entries before choosing a winner!

Imagine the feeling of waving the flag to officially start the Nottinghamshire stage of the Tour of Britain. Your child or a child in your class could have this feeling on 6 September if their design is chosen as the winner of our flag design competition!

What will the winner receive?

  • The chance to wave the flag at the start of the stage,
  • a prize for a family activity at either Rufford Abbey, Sherwood Forest or Holme Pierrepont Country Park,
  • 2 x VIP tickets to the start of the stage at Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre.

Every rider wants to win and your child or a child in your class could have the honour of presenting the winner of this year's Nottinghamshire stage of the Tour of Britain with the stage trophy that they have designed if they are chosen as the winner of our trophy design competition! 

What will the winner receive?

  • The chance to present their designed trophy to the winner of the stage,
  • a prize for a family activity at either Rufford Abbey, Sherwood Forest or Holme Pierrepont Country Park,
  • 2 x VIP tickets to the finish of the stage in Newark.

When you think of cycling, jerseys may be one of the first things that comes to mind! Your child or a child in your class could be on the stage in Newark on 6 September presenting the winner of the Nottinghamshire stage of the tour with a custom designed jersey if they are chosen as the winner of our jersey design competition!

What will the winner receive?

  • The chance to present a jersey with their design on it to the winner of the Nottinghamshire stage,
  • their very own jersey including their winning design,
  • a prize for a family activity at either Rufford Abbey, Sherwood Forest or Holme Pierrepont Country Park,
  • 2 x VIP tickets to the finish of the stage in Newark.
