On 31 December 1942, off the North Cape of the Barents Sea, Captain Sherbrooke was in command of HMS Onslow, escorting a convoy to Murmansk.

Vastly out numbered, the convoy was attacked four times and repelled.

Despite being seriously wounded, his courage, his fortitude and his cool and prompt decisions inspired all around him.

By his leadership and example, the convoy was saved from damage and was brought safely to its destination.
