Shared Lives carers are self‑employed and provide a safe, supportive home to adults who need care.

You can offer full‑time placements, short breaks or daytime support.

You do not need qualifications or previous experience. Kindness, patience and a willingness to support others are what matter most.

This service is for

Adults who can offer a safe, supportive home and personalised care to someone needing extra help.

Eligibility

To apply, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • have the right to work in the UK
  • have a spare room
  • have a computer, laptop or tablet to complete online training
  • be willing to register as self‑employed with HMRC

Approval is also subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

We welcome applications from everyone, regardless of background or circumstances.

What will happen next

You will be asked a few quick eligibility questions and may need to create an account. After this, we will email you with information on how to book an information event.

Everyone must attend an information event before completing the full application.
