About this course
This course is part of the Miner2Major scheme, which aims to reconnect local people to Sherwood Forest’s sense of place, varied landscapes and cultural heritage. Air dry clay is similar to traditional clay but doesn't require a kiln to harden. This type of clay is useful for people who want to try their hand at rolling, coiling, stamping, and sculpting clay but don't necessarily want to spend the time and money learning traditional ceramics. No Prior knowledge required - suitable for beginners.
Working with our professional art tutor, on this course you will:
- Preserve nature in the form of air dry clay leaf bowls.
- Choose a leaf whose shape and texture you like and make an impression with it onto a thinly rolled sheet of air dry clay.
By the end of this course you will know how to build, decorate and varnish a form. These beautiful bowls make lovely home decor statement pieces. The course is aimed to give learners a good understanding of the processes by using examples and demonstrations.
- Cut around the edge of the leaf and form the clay leaf into a bowl. Decorated by applying washes of paint and varnish it.
You will need:
- 1 kg DAS white air dry clay, acrylic / watercolour paint, rolling pin, stamps, synthetic paint brushes, baby wipes, cotton rags, airtight container, cling film
There will be an online session on 20/06/2023.
This course is programmed as part of the Miner2Major Landscape Partnership scheme, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
