Pint of Science - Our Body

Monday 9 May 2022 7.30pm to 9.30pm The Waterfront £5.00

Reading between the lines: Can you really trust all the scientific “facts” you read online? Join us for an evening of understanding and communicating science followed by some clinical exploration. Talk 1: We don't need no education! Speaker: Prof. Philip Moriarty Blurb: Your aunt’s Facebook feed, politicians’ Twitter, newspapers’ frontpages, science misinformation and confusion is everywhere. So often what is reported and spread reflects only part of the unique story that makes up each discovery. Professor Phil Moriarty, of the University of Nottingham’s School of Physics and Astronomy, talks about how the science we read about is too often distilled down to catchy headlines and devoid of the nuance that makes science worth exploring. Talk 2: How laboratory research is translated to clinic and all its challenges Speaker: Marson Kwan Blurb: Presenting NuVision Biotherapies Research and Development Engineer, Marson Kwan - Here to communicate the process of transferring laboratory research to clinic and the different challenges that are associated within a highly regulated tissue environment as a biotechnology start-up.
