Whittling 4-Week Course

Thursday 6 May - Thursday 3 June 2021 6pm to 9.15pm Hanwell Wine Estate £240.00

Enjoy the uniquely satisfying experience of whittling, all in the beautiful surroundings of Hanwell Wine Estate. Martin your tutor will share with you his years of carving experience and knowledge of tools and materials to use. Over the course of 4 weeks, you will learn techniques, tips and gain valuable experience whittling 7 unique pieces. Summary of weekly sessions: Week 1 – Thursday 6th May Introduction to course content, tools, and equipment. Cutting techniques and knife grips. Health and Safety. Wood Choice and preparation Your carving projects: Carve a butter spreader and a coffee bag peg. Week 2 -Thursday 13th May Sharpening your edged tools. Carving projects: a simple owl and a Fox bookmark. Week 3 – Thursday 20th May Carving project: a wood spirits and basic faces. Week 4 – Thursday 3rd June Aftercare of your carvings. Carving project: a stirring spoon. Please note there will not be a session on the 27th May. Each session starts at 6pm and finishes at approximately 9pm. By the end of this 4-week course you will have mastered the skills sufficiently to be able to practice on your own. This workshop is suitable for both complete novices and people with experience of working with wood. All materials and tools are provided along with refreshments. Martin Rollins is an expert in teaching bush craft skills, he was formerly Head of Outdoor Education for Lincolnshire’s Teaching and Learning Centres. He now owns and manages his own outdoor-focused business. This workshop is a relaxing opportunity to get away from it all and do something different in the beautiful country side. “Making something like this, something simple yet challenging, practical yet pleasing, feels good for the soul” Information: To ensure the quality of your personal experience, group size will be limited to 10. Please note: a minimum number of 4 bookings is required in order for the session to go ahead, if the minimum number is not reached then the course will be rescheduled to a later date.
