Our Home to School Transport Policy applies to all pupils in Nottinghamshire from 1 September 2018.

Apply

Applications are assessed by officers of the Council’s Transport and Travel Services Group (TTS). Full conditions of the scheme and details of how to apply are included in the under 16 travel scheme booklet. Please ensure you have read these documents before completing an application form:

You can submit an application in two ways:

Pay

Once you have applied for assistance the Travel & Transport team will write to you with the outcome.  If you are entitled to assisted or subsidised travel the letter will include a quote to pay before the bus pass will be issued to you.

Denominational schools transport

The rules covering home to school transport for children attending a denominational school (faith school) are slightly different.

The table below summarises the travel assistance that is available for children attending their nearest suitable school preferred on the grounds of religion or belief.  Please see the Home to School Transport Policy for full information.

Age Income level Type of Assistance
5-11 Low income  Free travel to school between 2-20 miles from home
5-11 N/A Subsidised travel to school between 2-20 miles from home
11-16 Low income Free travel to school between 2-25 miles from home
11-16 N/A Subsidised travel to school between 2-25 miles from home

The scheme will be provided for the purposes of home to school travel on school days only and not outside of standard school hours (local bus service timetables may apply).

The scheme will only provide free travel on existing school and local bus services. If your child has special educational needs or disabilities, transport will be provided using existing school and local bus services or special transport services, subject to assessment of compatibility

Change in circumstance

Any change in circumstances (e.g. moving home address, changing school etc) must be notified to TTS immediately in order for entitlement and provision to be reassessed. Previous entitlement does not guarantee that free travel will be provided in the future.

A new application for travel assistance may be required and would be considered in accordance with the home to school transport policy and discretionary scheme in place at the time.
