141 bus service FAQs

We are committed to providing accessible, reliable, good value bus transport options for people acros Nottinghamshire.

We currently fund around 80 services across the county to a value of £4.1m.  This funding helps support routes which are not commercially viable for bus operators but are essential for local people.

Why has Trentbarton given notice on the 141 service?

During the pandemic and into this year the Government has supported bus companies so that routes can continue to operate through the Bus Recovery Grant. This subsidy funding, which is in addition to the £35k from the County Council, is coming to an end in September. Trentbarton has taken a commercial decision to no longer operate this route, as passenger levels have not recovered to a commercially sustainable level.

What is the County Council doing to help the 141 bus service?

The County Council is running a tender exercise with local bus operators with the intention to fund a like for like service.  It is intended that the new operator will start the new service from 5 September 2022 so there will be no loss in service.

Why can Trentbarton not continue if the Council is helping to fund the route?

Due to current operational issues Trentbarton have said they can no longer run this service.

I have a ticket for the 141 will I still be able to use it?

Trentbarton tickets will no longer be accepted.  To request a refund please contact Trentbarton directly.

Mango cards and the app will also no longer be accepted so please contact Trentbarton to arrange a refund.

Will the new service accept concessionary passes?

Yes, the new service will accept concessionary travel passes.

What will happen if the service doesn’t get enough passengers?

From August 5 2022, for the next 12 months we will subsidise the route and we would strongly urge people to use it. After 12 months, like all our subsidised contracts, we will review the service.

What will happen next for the 141?

The current 141 service operated by Trentbarton will run until 4 September 2022 and users of the service will see no change.

We aim to announce who the new bus operator will be in mid-August and will at that time start to promote all the details, including issuing timetables.
