Views are being sought for this ambitious project to create a new climate-combatting woodland at Willey Wood Farm, Brinsley to help improve the environment.

The proposals will see approximately 40,000 trees planted across 39 hectares of agricultural land on the former Willey Wood Farm, purchased by Nottinghamshire County Council as part of the Trees for Climate scheme being delivered by the Greenwood Community Forest Team with planting planned to start in autumn 2022.

Local residents interested in the scheme can find out more and have their say at a drop-in open evening on Wednesday 20 July between 4:30pm and 7:30pm at Brinsley Parish Hall, Cordy Lane in Brinsley. Some concept designs will be presented and views sought on the establishment of a native broadleaf woodland, public access from the surrounding areas and the phasing of the works which will happen over more than one year.

Nick Tucker, Greenwood’s Woodland Creation Manager, said: “The Greenwood Community Forest team is looking forward to meeting as many people as possible at the open evening to explain plans in more detail, and to hear the views of local people on the proposals.

These exciting proposals will bring benefits for people and the landscape, as well as locking up hundreds of tonnes of carbon, and will allow valuable new wildlife habitats to develop.”

The proposals for Willey Wood Farm are part of a wider Trees for Climate national programme being delivered by England’s 13 Community Forests. This programme is seeking to boost woodland creation across England and is supported by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Forestry Commission, and the Community Forest Trust, with funding coming from the government’s Nature for Climate fund.
