There is still time to nominate inspirational young people and highlight their fantastic achievements.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s 4Uth awards are a celebration of the accomplishments of young people aged 11-19 (or up to 25 for young people with a disability) from all seven districts of the county.

The closing date for nominations is Friday 20 June. Nominations can be made by anyone – including schools, charities, friends, family members and youth groups.

Previous nominees and winners have often overcome major challenges in their lives, such as bereavement, trauma and illness, and have raised thousands for charity, cared for friends or relatives and helped others.

Here are some examples of the nominations we’ve received so far:

Newark and Sherwood, Daisy, 17
Daisy’s dedication to relentlessly helping Dukeries Young People’s Centre, friends and her younger sibling, has not gone unnoticed by those around her. Despite challenges along the way, including friendship difficulties and a long commute to and from college with very early starts, Daisy never gave up and is now on the way to completing her course.

Nominated by a former youth worker from Dukeries Young People’s Centre, they said, “From volunteering her time and stepping up as a team leader at Shadow 2024, to helping in the kitchen to cook food for everyone at the centre and running the tuckshop, Daisy is a truly special member of our community.

“She will always go the extra mile for her friends and family, and I am sure they will vouch for that.

“We are so proud of the young adult Daisy is growing up to be. The length she has travelled through secondary school and into college is a true testament to the strength and bright future she has ahead of her”.

Broxtowe, Archie,15
Archie has significantly contributed through his selfless volunteering to both Stapleford’s Young People’s Centre and Derbyshire St John's Ambulance, to help make a positive difference to his peers and society. Even while balancing his last year of GCSE studies and exams, alongside dealing with a family member’s illness, Archie’s consistent and extensive volunteer work hasn’t stopped.

Nominated by a youth worker from Stapleford’s Young People Centre, they said, “Archie has had a major positive impact to both the young people’s centre and Derbyshire St John's Ambulance. He has represented the centre, delivered first aid training, painted walls, dismantled furniture, set up interactive areas and consistently volunteered his help.

“Archie never seeks reward and as a cadet first aid trainer for St John's Ambulance, trains young people weekly, serves as the regional representative on the East Midlands board and has dedicated over fifty hours to local events.

"It is worthy of recognition that Archie gives up so much of his free time to support other young people. He does the things he does for no other reason than to help people”.

Pom Bhogal, Head of Service for Young People’s Services, said “The 4Uth awards are a celebration of the incredible young people in our county, shining a light on their achievements, energy and the positive difference they make in their communities.

“Nominations are now open. So, if you know a young person who inspires others, shows leadership, or brings something special to those around them, I'd encourage you to nominate them.

“We are proud to champion the potential and impact of Nottinghamshire’s young people and this award gives them the recognition they truly deserve.

“The nominations we have received so far so far are a powerful reminder of just how much young people contribute to our communities”.

A panel of judges will assess the nominations and select district finalists before a special presentation evening later this year where an overall winner will be announced.
