Major improvements for the A60 Sainsbury’s junction in Mansfield move a step closer

Plans to improve the Sainsbury’s junction in Mansfield have moved a step closer after the go-ahead for £2m worth of Government funds to be transferred to Nottinghamshire County Council to progress the scheme.

It comes off the back of the wider £20m Levelling Up funding announcement for Mansfield by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities earlier in January. 

A £2m share of these funds was earmarked towards the upgrade of this junction on Nottingham Road to help improve journey times into Mansfield town centre.  

Councillor Ben Bradley MP, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said:
“The Levelling Up Funds and Partnership represents a chance for us to tackle some long-term and important issues for our area, particularly in disadvantaged areas. 

“An upgrade to the Sainsbury’s junction is a priority and is something I know residents and businesses are very keen to see.  

“I’ve been working to secure the funding for this for many years, so I’m delighted things are now moving to the next stage so we can make these planned junction improvements a reality.” 

Nottinghamshire County Councillor Keith Girling, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Asset Management, added:

“This junction has been a pinch-point for local traffic for many years, so a major scheme such as this is vital to help people stay on the move when travelling into Mansfield town centre. It is so important to help our town centres thrive and boost the local economy.”

Discussions with affected landowners have already started, with detailed designs already drawn up.  More updates will be promoted in the coming months.

The wider £20m funds will help support Mansfield residents in the most deprived areas access vital services and help divert young people from crime and anti-social behaviour, and ensure the town is best prepared to benefit from future investment. 

Mansfield District Council will work with partners to help deliver these improvements.

Other county council-led schemes in this package includes £3.2m for a planned youth centre in Mansfield to help divert young people from crime and anti-social behaviour.  

£300,000 for the planned refurbishment of South Mansfield Family Hub Network has also been earmarked to help improve support for local families.
