Families across Nottinghamshire can access a wide range of support, advice and activities through their local family hub. With the Christmas season in full flow, families are encouraged to find out more about some of the activities and sessions lined up to bring families together.
As well as the usual help and support available for families with children aged from 0 to 19, there’s plenty of festive fun and cheer on offer. From toy appeals for local families, to stay and play, and family-friendly get-togethers, Nottinghamshire’s family hubs are welcoming spaces for everyone.
This year’s annual toy appeal in Rushcliffe has seen a variety of gifts and presents provided for local families thanks to their local family hubs and kind donations from local charities, businesses and the public.
Christmas can be an especially tough time for many families and these kinds of community projects make a huge difference. Donations and gifts range from toys, books, games and toiletries.
Speaking about the “life-changing” impact the Christmas toy appeal has had on her family, Helen Benton a parent from Bingham said “It’s been a hard year, and I think most people will say the same. With the cost of everything going up, I’ve had to use food banks, and I didn’t think the kids were going to get a Christmas this year, but now they have”.
Jack Brown from Sutton-in-Ashfield has been attending his family hub with his child for the past year and says the support he’s received is “just amazing”. He has also recently become a volunteer “to give a bit back to the community” and says that family hubs are a “Godsend”.
Provision includes services and activities from pregnancy to four-years-old e.g. midwifery and breastfeeding support and as well as offering services for families who need extra help with things like behaviour, special educational needs and disabilities, and more.
Nottinghamshire’s family hubs provide a wealth of information, support and advice for local families. Families can also access a range of services, participate in activities with their young children and find out about local groups at any of the 32 county council run hubs.
Councillor Rory Green, Cabinet Member for Children and Families at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Our family hubs support families all year round. The teams often go above and beyond to deliver services that help children and young people as well as mums and dads.
“We have support available all over the county and staff who are committed to ensuring that children and families receive the best support possible wherever they are in the county.
“If families haven’t used their local hub yet, I’d really encourage them to go along and find out about all of the various support and help on offer.”
