Councillor Richard Butler – Chairman, Nottinghamshire County Council, invites you to attend the county show this weekend, at Newark.

"We are immensely proud of our county and once again, we are working with the team behind the annual Nottinghamshire County Show held on 10 May to promote all we have to offer.

"Celebrating, 140 years this year, the show welcomes thousands of visitors, and local and regional businesses while showcasing livestock, horses, countryside competitions, plus local food producers, and craft stalls.

"As in previous years, we have worked with our services and community partners to fill the George Stephenson Exhibition Hall (so it will be great come rain or shine!) to create a wonderful Community Zone. This year, we are coming back bigger and better to showcase all the amazing work our services and our partners are offering the local community. The emphasis is on activities. Each stand has been tasked to share their information in a fun way, using a game or a challenge so there is plenty to do and see.

"I was fortunate to visit last year so witnessed the Community Zone first hand. I met many of our hard-working teams and learned a lot about the services they provide. I understand they are all back this year so look forward to catching up with Inspire Libraries, the mobile youth service bus, Notts Outdoors, and the team from Via East Midlands.

"Our colleagues at Via are sponsors of the zone this year and will be something for everyone to enjoy, with free ‘Learn to Ride’ Bikeability sessions for children, a fun cycle track, car seat safety tips, and the chance to sit in a real gritter!

"As part of the Nottinghamshire VE and VJ Day 80 celebrations, there will be a themed display. The Clipstone Headstocks Mining and Military Museum will also be showing some interesting vehicles and memorabilia.

"We have lots of new services getting involved this year too, so I look forward to meeting Adoption East Midlands, Brooke Farm, Notts Talks, Women’s Aid, as well as the sporting offer from colleagues at Nottingham Rugby and Newark Tennis Club. There will also be a full programme of music and entertainment on the zone’s stage, and cookery demonstrations from colleagues at Newark and Sherwood District Council.

"The show is always guaranteed to be a great day, so I really hope to see you there."
