Skills celebration among Chairman’s weekly engagements
Chairman John Handley meets young achievers who have been taking part in a pioneering skills and employment programme.
Nottinghamshire County Council Chairman Councillor John Handley will be meeting young achievers at a work skills celebration this week.
Nine young people aged between 16 and 24 who are currently unemployed, have taken part in the Bright Lights - Starting Out course which has helped to build their skills in retail and hospitality. So far two have secured employment and others are going for interviews.
The five-week course has been funded by British Land, owners of Giltbrook shopping centre and the young people have learnt skills such as how to build a CV, practice interview skills and team building.
The Bright Lights celebration event is taking place at the Hilton Hotel, in Nuthall Road, on Friday 20th October.
One of the organisers, Helen Lee, said: “We are delighted that Nottinghamshire County Council Chairman Councillor John Handley will be at our celebration event. The young people have been on quite a journey and have learnt some vital skills along the way which will stand them in good stead for their future careers.”
Elsewhere, Councillor Handley will be at a Festival of Remembrance at the North Notts Community Arena, in Eastgate, Worksop on Saturday afternoon.
