Queen Elizabeth's Academy: donating PPE equipment

A speaker from Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfield, who works as a midwife, came to speak to students at Queen Elizabeth's Academy (QEA) as part of their careers programme.

QEA's science department decided to support the Kings Mill Hospital maternity team by donating some of their PPE equipment, as the midwifery team have to wear PPE for all patient interactions, and thought it would be a good idea to get other schools on board as well.

QEA's Pincipal, Kimberly Willmot, was very supportive, and took the idea to the school's trust (Diverse Academies Trust), who jumped at the chance to support the wider community.

Through teacher networks in the East Midlands, QEA's science department spread the word pulling in schools and trust leaders across the region to do the same, with school staff as far away as Berkshire interested, resulting in hundreds of pairs of eye protectors and gloves being donated through the drive.

The first delivery of PPE was sent to the Head of Midwifery at Kings Mill Hospital, and the second to the Respiratory Ward. Staff from Kings Mill Hospital Maternity team are pictured above in some of the donated PPE.
