A career in Trading Standards

Nottinghamshire Trading Standards service enforces legislation on a wide range of areas, such as weights and measures, food safety, product safety, animal health and animal feed. 

We work to keep the residents of Nottinghamshire safe from harm and exploitation by rogue traders by offering comprehensive advice and guidance to businesses to help them comply with relevant legislation, encouraging them to be successful within the community.

The role of a Trading Standards officer is very varied, no two days are ever the same. One of our officers says:

“I recently joined Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards Service as an apprentice. So far, my experience has been eye opening. The scope of what legislation is enforced by Trading Standards is far reaching.”

The work requires officers to have skills such as patience, determination, attention to detail and the ability to talk to people and businesses in wide ranging situations, within communities.
