Guitar Trio In Concert
Jonathan Crossley has been described as ‘The Poster Boy for Modern Guitar’ by Guitar Moderne whilst bassist Carlo Mombelli’s work has been described as “Hauntingly Beautiful” by BBC Radio London. The UK tour centred around the release of Crossley’s new album ‘Inhale’ which will be premiered on the 2nd of December at the Yoko Ono centre in Liverpool. Inhale was recorded at the Flame studios in Johannesburg, which was built into the very jail cells that held Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi under apartheid and features Crossley, Mombelli and Sweetman with members of the Johannesburg Philharmonic. Additionally in Liverpool the trio is presenting a performance of works from Mombelli’s latest album ‘Lullaby for Planet Earth’, an intimate and reflective work featuring classical and electric guitars, bass, drums and vibraphone. This hybrid presentation at The HopBarn will feature a mix of works by Crossley and Mombeli, music ranging from classical to jazz and post-rock to electronica. This concert will be an audio smorgasbord of delights for music lovers of many styles and fans of the guitar. Speaking about the concert, Jonathan Crossley says: “After moving to Southwell in 2021 I am delighted to be welcoming Carlo and Jonno all the way from South Africa to my hometown. to perform at the Hop Barn. We centred this tour around the university of Liverpool, but I am grateful to the Hop Barn for the opportunity to bring them to Southwell. It is their first tour in the UK and the first time in a long time that we have all performed together so this should be something really special. Carlo’s new album has met with rave reviews and my brand-new album brings together years of my research and works across multiple genres. I can’t wait to share this with everyone.” Vinyl copies of ‘Inhale’ will be available at the performance along with CD’s of ‘Lullaby for Planet Earth’.
