What is School Travel Planning?

School Travel Planning promotes safer, active and sustainable travel to school. The key aim is to help reduce the number of children and staff travelling to school by car. This is to tackle issues of congestion, air pollution, child safety and inactivity.

Process:

  1. Let everyone know! You will be contacted and informed that a Travel Plan is being developed (by letter / newsletter etc.)
  2. Conduct site audit The existing facilities (e.g. cycle parking) will be examined.
  3. Conduct travel surveys All pupils and staff will complete a Travel Survey to find out how everyone is currently travelling to school
  4. Adopt action plan The school will run lots of activities to encourage safer, more sustainable travel.
  5. Monitoring and evaluation The school will do more surveys to evaluate success, and identify what improvements can still be made.

How can parents and guardians help?

For a Travel Plan to succeed, every member of the school community needs to get involved! We understand that everyone is busy, but even small changes will make a huge difference to the safety and well-being of our pupils.
