Blue Badge scheme

The Blue Badge scheme helps you park closer to your destination if you’re disabled.

Decision-making process

Your details will come to us whether you apply online through GOV.UK or complete a paper application form. We will then consider your application and make a decision about whether you are eligible for a badge or not.

We will aim to process applications as quickly as possible, but please allow up to twelve weeks for processing. This includes re-applications.

If we ask for an expert assessment, we will make an appointment with one of our assessors. We will write to you with the relevant details should you be required to attend an assessment.

If you are eligible, the badge will be sent to you by second class post once we have received all the correct documents, photograph and payment of £10 from you.

If you are not eligible

If you are not eligible for a badge we will write to you giving the reason. If you think the decision is wrong we will review it. To request a review, write to us explaining why you believe the decision was wrong:

You may be asked to have an expert assessment with one of our assessors as part of the review. If you have already had this assessment, you must provide new evidence about your application when you ask for the review.
