NSAB Board update

  • Paul Johnson, Service Director, and Emma Darby, NSAB Manager, showed a video to the Board of a meeting which had taken place with a service user in which they had described their recent experiences of the safeguarding process. This was further to an agreement at the April Board meeting that members should present on the “voice of the service user”.


  • Updates on the Learning and Development, the Quality Assurance and the Safeguarding Adults Review Sub-Groups were provided by their respective chairs.


  • Annie Greer and Helen Hall from Nottinghamshire County Council presented the annual update to the Board on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.


  • Andy Gowan from Nottinghamshire Police presented the six-monthly update to the Board on modern slavery.


  • Julie Gardner from Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust provided an update on the Independent Inquiry on Child Sexual Abuse which is taking place nationwide.


  • Amanda Sullivan from the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) gave a presentation on the merger of the CCGs and how work will take place going forward.


  • Susan Barnitt of the CCGs presented a report on concerns raised in Nottinghamshire in relation to Cygnet Healthcare following the recent Panorama investigation into one of their private hospitals in County Durham.


  • Emma Darby presented the new draft action plan following sign-off by the Board at the April meeting of the Preventing Abuse and Neglect Strategy. The action plan was agreed by the Board. Emma confirmed that the Board’s Partnership Events will be utilised as a forum for the Prevention agenda.


  • Emma Darby presented the self-neglect advice and toolkit which has been drafted in collaboration with the Nottingham City Safeguarding Adults Board. The Board agreed the document, and it will be available on the Board’s website in due course.


  • Allan Breeton informed the Board that work was underway with prisons in Nottinghamshire to improve their links to the Board.


  • Allan Breeton updated the Board on the continuing absence due to a family bereavement of the current Chair of the East Midlands Safeguarding Adults Network. The National Chairs Meeting has appointed a new Chair, the Regional Chairs Meeting will next be held in September 2019, the Board is on track with regard to recommendations contained following a recent Chair’s Audit.


  • Allan confirmed that Nichola Bramhall has recently left the Clinical Commissioning Groups and moved to East Midlands Ambulance Service. Deborah Kitson of the Ann Craft Trust will no longer be a member of the Board going forward.  The Board’s thanks to both were noted for their contributions.
