Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Adults Board Update

Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Adults Board Update

NSAB Meeting – 11th April 2019

Brief summary:

  • Updates on the Learning and Development, the Quality Assurance and the Safeguarding Adults Review Sub-Groups were provided by their respective Chairs.
  • Emma Darby, the Board Manager, proposed that NSAB Members should present to the Board (one per meeting) on the “Voice of the Service User”, what it means for their organisations, and what is being done within their organisations. This was agreed, and the Local Authority will provide the first of these presentations at the Board Meeting in July 2019.
  • Allan Breeton, the Chair of the Board, presented the Year Two Strategic Plan – the detail is to be built into the individual Sub-Groups’ action plans for the year ahead.
  • Emma Darby presented the new draft Preventing Abuse and Neglect Strategy which had been drafted further to work which had taken place at the Board’s Development Day in January. The Board agreed the Strategy and work will now commence on creating an action plan with the focus being on social isolation; self-neglect; supporting carers; and fraud.  The Strategy will be launched officially at the Board’s Partnership Event in May 2019.
  • The Board considered a review of Safeguarding Arrangements in Nottinghamshire, as progress in embedding the safeguarding element of the Care Act is now being analysed. Further work is to take place, and the Board will be updated at the July meeting.
  • Nicola Ryan of Bassetlaw Clinical Commissioning Group presented a report on the work undertaken to establish a new process for monitoring the transitions of children into adult services.
  • Allan Breeton updated the Board on the appointment of the new Independent Chair for the Nottingham City Safeguarding Adults Board, he stated that he had recently chaired the East Midlands Safeguarding Adults Network in the absence of the current Chair, and he reminded the Board that the next NSAB Partnership Event is scheduled to be held on 21st May 2019.
  • Amanda Sullivan informed the Board that a formal merger of the Clinical Commissioning Groups across Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City has been requested of NHS England and further information will be provided to the Board once arrangements have been finalised.
