Help protect yourself from Coronavirus

06 March 2020

You can help to protect yourself from the spread of germs by washing your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water. You should also cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve (not your hands) if you cough or sneeze and put the tissue in the bin straight away, remembering to wash your hands again afterwards: ‘Catch it, Bin it, Kill it’.  Also, try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.

Visit NHS 111 or phone 111 if you are concerned. The advice for managing Coronavirus, or Covid-19, for most people will be to self-isolate at home and use simple over the counter medicines.

The symptoms of Coronavirus are a cough, a high temperature and shortness of breath. However, these symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

Most people can continue to go to work, school and other public places - you only need to stay away from public places (self-isolate) if advised to by NHS 111 or a medical professional.

More detailed guidance is available on the Public Health England website.
