No, I don't like doing death by PowerPoint, so it's gonna be relatively short and sweet, and then we're just going to pretty much look at the software itself. So we're going to look at the live software. So it's going to be what we've got right now and what's coming up. So we've got some, we've got some more coming in as we speak. So I'm going to share my screen and we will crack on and we will start with PowerPoint to give you a bit of a turn of camera off actually to give you a bit of kind of a bit of context, really a bit of history.
Stephen Thompson 0 minutes 58 seconds
So can someone just give me a shout that they can see my PowerPoint alright?

Perfect. Excellent. Thank you very much. So yeah, so there's there's a few things we're going to look at this morning as kind of Sarah's just touched on there. So the main bits I'm going to cover, we'll do a bit of an intro which, like I say, is a bit of history of bit of context because there's a couple of key bits about next Gen that you guys at school should be aware of. The bulk of it will be me doing a live demo. So you can see actually, you know PowerPoint's lovely, but it's nice to see some live software. So the bulk of it will be in the software itself.
Stephen Thompson 1 minute 37 seconds
I'm going to do a little class view focus as well. There class view is something that's coming on later this year, but actually it's going to be really cool and really useful for lots of our schools. So I wanted to do a little bit about that. There will be, I'm going to squeeze in because Sarah mentioned there about how you get on boarded. So I'm going to squeeze in just a couple of little slides about that process. Basically it's a four step process. It's really straightforward. That is not my area of expertise by the way. I'm not an IT person, but I'll just talk you through the four steps.
Stephen Thompson 2 minutes 8 seconds
And then we'll have AQ and A at the end. So we're squeezing in a little bit extra there. But again, I don't see any reason why it's going to, you know, why we need a full hour. I don't think we will.
Stephen Thompson 2 minutes 19 seconds
OK, so I'm going to leave it on this screen for a second, just while we do a bit of history in a bit of context. So the first two key bits I wanted to say about next Gen is first of all, you guys almost certainly are already licenced for this. OK? I haven't checked everyone's account, but any school, any school that has a long term direct contract is our.
Stephen Thompson 2 minutes 42 seconds
Technology, which I'm pretty sure all of you have already, has a licence for next Gen. OK, so some of you might have been at bet in January. Me and Leah were for our sins and we spoke to lots of schools about next Gen and lots of schools said, oh, how much is it? And we said there's no additional charge. It's it's, you know, it's part of your contract. So that we just need to be really clear about that, right. As long as you've got a long term direct contract, you effectively already have it all you need to do is get on board and get up and running with it. And again, we'll talk about how you might.
Stephen Thompson 3 minutes 16 seconds
Want to do that?
Stephen Thompson 3 minutes 17 seconds
A bit later on in the session. So that's the first thing you guys are already licenced for it and the next thing to say as well is that when we've kind of designed this, the idea of it is kind of little steps to go into a new solution. So the other key message is we're trying to minimise disruption, OK within school because in school you guys are doing a million different things. You've got probably very little time, let's be honest, to learn a new bit of software, let's say.
Stephen Thompson 3 minutes 50 seconds
So the idea of doing this in kind of like migrating as it were in little steps.
Stephen Thompson 3 minutes 55 seconds
Is is actually a really good one and really useful for lots of our schools. So for those of you that have worked with Sims and worked in school for a long time, you may remember that we've been talking about Sims Next Gen for a few years now. What we were going to do previously was, let's call it The Big Bang approach. So we were going to have, right everyone's got Sims 7 at the moment, so that's the current version of Sims that you guys will be using. And we were going to release Sims 8 and everyone was going to migrate over to Sims 8.
Stephen Thompson 4 minutes 23 seconds
And and then we're going to start using it completely new user interface. All the rest of it new system. Now we've taken a step back from that and we're what we're doing now is it's releasing it in what they call slices basically. So little slices of functionality and what that allows you as a school to do is you decide, you know, who's going to transition when. So maybe your teaching staff are starting to use the next Gen registers.
Stephen Thompson 4 minutes 47 seconds
Straight away and maybe the office staff are going to carry on using SIM 7 for a bit and then migrate at a later date. That sort of stuff.
Stephen Thompson 4 minutes 54 seconds
So it's the point is, it's about you guys being in control and just moving over as and when you're ready to do it. And as and when you know you've got the kind of resource or the capacity because again you've got a million other things to do to actually learn like a new slice. So it's minimising disruption and it's sort of flattening that learning curve because let's be honest, if you move to a another system, so it could be like the new version of Sims, if we were going to do Sims 8 and The Big Bang approach like we were going to do or if you're moving to a completely new MIS.
Stephen Thompson 5 minutes 26 seconds
No matter how lovely and intuitive it is, there's going to be a learning curve there.
Stephen Thompson 5 minutes 29 seconds
So the idea with this is we're we're flattening that out essentially. So you know you've all you've got to do is learn this one slice which will probably take you about 3 minutes to get to grips with because it's pretty straightforward. And then in a next term's time, you can learn this other slides because that might be useful for you. So that's the idea. And the other thing about that as well. So those are the two key things, but it as part of this idea of minimising disruption Sim's next Gen is designed to work in conjunction with SIM 7. OK. So what I mean by that is the data flows between the two of them. So it doesn't really matter.
Stephen Thompson 6 minutes 5 seconds
Which front end I use as a as a staff member in school? I might use SIM 7 or I might use NextGen, but all the data is going back into your the same place. Basically your database OK and that's really important because of course what we'll do some examples of that as we go through it. But of course what that means is you're not losing anything in terms of kind of functionality because you've still got everything that's in SIM seven. It's just you know now we've got the extra kind of flexibility of having like a web front end and we'll talk about that a bit more as we go through it.
Stephen Thompson 6 minutes 37 seconds
Rob, we've got our mission slide here. I'm not gonna talk through all of this because at this stage we don't need to, but this just touches on what I was talking about there. So if we look at #1 on our little graphic there, it talks about broad and deep functionality and that's really what I'm trying to get to with this. So yes, this is like, you know, next Gen, the new version of Sims, and it's all, it's all online and it's optimised for a mobile phone. And you know, you can you, you know, as long as you've got a browser.
Stephen Thompson 7 minutes 7 seconds
And a connection it will work. You can use it on whatever you want my tablet. Again, I appreciate these rules on devices within school for phones and stuff, but depending on what the rules are, you can use it on what whatever you want again, as long as you've got the right permissions. Of course it's like the rest of teams, it's permissions based, but you're not losing all the stuff that you use Sims for anyway. All that stuff is still in SIM seven, it's just that you've got this nice kind of flexible new front end if you want to use it. So I think that's an important kind of message as well.
Stephen Thompson 7 minutes 37 seconds
Where and I'm going to be guilty in the next kind of 40 minutes of talking about Sims 7 and NextGen.
