About LEADER

LEADER stands for 'Liaison Entre Actions pour le Development de L’Economie Rurale' which roughly translates to 'links between actions for developing the rural economy.

LEADER is European funding sourced through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) and sits alongside a variety of grants and measures to help support and develop the rural economy.

More about other sources of rural funding will be available later on the partner organisations page.

The National Managing Authority for RDPE LEADER is the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Defra is responsible to the European Commission for the successful delivery of the national programme.

The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) acts as Defra’s agent in administering the financial and operational part of the Programme.
