'How to do your own PR' taster session for heritage organisations plus 'Netwalk'

In today's fast paced world, media coverage can be invaluable for heritage organisations. This ‘How to do your own PR’ taster session is led by award winning journalist Mary Murtagh, who will give you some top tips on how to promote your organisation in print and social media, as well as on radio and television. If you have a success story you want to share, you will get some ideas on how to present this information in a way that engages reporters and gets it on their news agenda. The areas covered include: * What makes a story and how to spot them in your daily routine * How the media works and what to do to attract the attention of journalists * Tips for writing press releases  * Where to go next if you need more information or training in PR As well as the taster session on PR, we will be conducting a 'Netwalk'. This is a chance to network with other heritage organisations across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire (because visitors don't see boundaries and neither should we!) through the medium of a leisurely 2-3 mile walk through Bestwood Country Park. The event will run as follows: • 9.30am Registration and refreshments • 10.00am 'How to do your own PR' taster session led by Mary Murtagh • 11.00am Quick update on what is happening in the heritage sector in Nottinghamshire • 11.15am Quick update on what is happening in the heritage sector in Derbyshire • 11.30am 'Netwalk' around Bestwood Country Park - you will be encouraged to talk to people from your own county as well as attendees from the neighbouring county. Wear suitable footwear and clothing. In the case of very bad weather, alternative arrangements will be made. • 12.30pm approx. close. This event is free and hosted by Nottinghamshire County Council.
