Integrated Care System

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS) is a partnership and collaboration that brings together NHS services, local authorities and other local partners across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to collectively plan and deliver joined up health and care services to improve the lives of our population.

The Health and Care Bill in 2022 created Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) as replacements for Clinical Commissioning Groups and establishes in law the role of Integrated Care Partnerships as the committee where health, social care, the voluntary sector and other partners come together as an Integrated Care System (ICS).

The ICS has four aims:

  1. Improve outcomes in population health and healthcare
  2. Tackle inequalities in outcomes, experience and access
  3. Enhance productivity and value for money
  4. Help the NHS support broader social and economic development.

There are two statutory organisations within the Integrated Care System:

  1. An Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) is a statutory committee jointly formed between the NHS Integrated Care Board and all upper-tier local authorities that fall within the ICS area. The ICP will bring together a broad alliance of partners concerned with improving the care, health and wellbeing of the population. The ICP has produced an Integrated Care Strategy 2023 – 2027 on how it will meet the health and wellbeing needs of the local population.
  1. An Integrated Care Board (ICB) is a statutory NHS organisation responsible for developing a plan for meeting the health needs of the population, managing the NHS budget and arranging for the provision of health services in the ICS area. It has developed a NHS Joint Forward Plan on how it will improve health outcomes for local people in Nottinghamshire.

Place Based Partnerships (PBP) have also been established in 2022. These are collaborative arrangements formed by the organisations responsible for arranging and delivering health and care services in a locality or community. There are 4 PBPs in Nottinghamshire:
