Weddings and Civil Ceremonies frequently asked questions
As a result of the latest government guidelines, it will be mandatory, from Saturday 8 August, for all ceremony guests (not the bride/groom/civil partners) to wear a face covering on our premises and during the ceremony.
Wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships in register offices or council approved premises recommenced on Saturday 4 July following the updated Government guidelines.
Due to social distancing rules, and the physical size of ceremony rooms, it still means that register office ceremonies can only be attended by very small groups.
Where can I get married or have a civil ceremony in Nottinghamshire and how many people can attend?
In Nottinghamshire you can now hold your ceremony in one of our open register offices. These are currently:
- West Bridgford Registration Office, Bridgford Hall, West Bridgford. Current Covid capacity is a total of six people plus two registrars
- Arnold Registration Office, Arnot Hill, Arnold. Current Covid capacity is a total of six people plus two registrars
- Mansfield Registration Office, County House, Mansfield. Current Covid capacity is 19 people plus two registrars
- Newark Registration Office, The Gilstrap, Newark. Current Covid capacity is 10 people plus two registrars
- Nottinghamshire Register Office, The Turbine, Worksop. Current Covid capacity is four people plus two registrars
In each case above, the maximum number of people includes photographers.
Alternatively, you can book to hold your ceremony at one of our approved premises. Please be aware that approved venues will have their own capacity limits, so please contact the venue direct to discuss, or via our Celebrate website.
Not all our approved premises are opening straight away, and it is the duty of the venue to ensure that the legal requirement of social distancing is adhered to.
What will happen during my ceremony?
Ceremonies will look very different with everyone having to observe social distancing rules. The ceremony will be very short and contain only the minimum legal requirements.
It will not be possible to include readings, promises or choice of music in the ceremony. Ring exchange is possible, but the couple will need to keep the rings in their own pockets.
I have a ceremony booked, who can I contact to discuss the arrangements or postpone/cancel?
If you have a ceremony booked and you have a named contact, please contact the office direct. If not, please call the Council’s Customer Service Centre on 0300 500 8080. They are open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm or you can contact them online.
If I or one of my guests feel poorly can we still go ahead?
If you are showing symptoms of coronavirus or have been with someone who has showed signs please self-isolate for two weeks and call us to discuss.
When will the rest of your offices be open?
We are working on this and will open more offices as soon as they are safe for the public to attend.
What about other registration services?
We are taking appointments for notice of marriage/civil partnership, but only within two months of the ceremony date. To make an appointment please call the Customer Service Centre on 0300 500 80 80.
