Opposite sex civil partnerships

The Civil Partnerships, Marriages and Deaths (Registration Etc.) Bill, which received Royal Assent on 26 March 2019, contains provisions for regulations to be made to make civil partnerships available to opposite sex couples.

Notice of intention to form such a civil partnership can be given from 2nd December. After the waiting period of 29 days it means that the formation can take place from 31st December at the earliest.

Please note that a civil partnership does not require a ceremony, therefore you can choose to sign the schedule in the presence of two qualified witnesses by booking a statutory ceremony appointment. If you wish to combine the signing with a full ceremony you will need to book a venue and registrars ahead of booking an appointment to give your legal notice of intention.
