The Local Authority Emergency Assistance Fund for Food and Essential Supplies

The Local Authority Emergency Assistance Fund for Food and Essential Supplies has now closed. All successful applicants for this round of funding have been contacted.

Last updated 29 April 2021

Central government allocated £858,285 to Nottinghamshire County Council to support groups that are helping people who are struggling to afford food and other essential items due to COVID-19.

Nottinghamshire charities and community organisations were awarded grants of up to £82,500 to deliver essential services to vulnerable Nottinghamshire residents impacted by COVID-19.

If your application was successful

We aim to make funding decisions and contact organisations as quickly as possible with the outcome of their application.

Successful applications will receive an email with an attached letter indicating the amount awarded and the terms of the funding.

All grant payments will be paid by BACS. Successful organisations that have not previously received grant funding from us will be asked to email a copy of a recent bank statement before the grant is released.

Successful projects will be registered on the Nottinghamshire Community Support and Volunteering Response Hub.

If your application is successful, you will be required to provide information and assistance to allow the authority to demonstrate that this public funding has been spent to support those in genuine need of assistance and that suitable measures to prevent fraud have been put in place.

Organisations in receipt of funding agree to repay the grant to the council if:

  • the organisation does not deliver the agreed project
  • the organisation is delivering the project in a negligent manner
  • the funding duplicates funding from another funder
  • the organisation deliberately provided false or misleading information to the council.

Other sources of help and support for voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations / groups

  1. We are aware that there is emerging volunteer action in many communities, as people step up to offer their support in response to community needs. Such projects may not have the structures and safeguards in place that are required to receive a grant, however, you may be able to get help / advice / support by talking to:
  •  Another established community organisation to see if there are ways in which you can partner with them;
  • Your local parish or town council who may be able to work with you;
  • Our Communities Team to discuss your situation and to see how we might be able to help / signpost you.
  1. Some services may require staff and volunteers to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Please see more information about DBS checks during COVID-19.

  2. Information about other sources of funding opportunities and advice is available on our support, advice and networking for voluntary and community groups webpage.
  3. Further information and advice for VCS groups is available through the NCC Community Support Hub or directly through National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

Fraud warning

We understand that some residents have received calls from people claiming to be from the Council and that the caller is asking residents to provide their bank details so that they can provide payments to volunteers. This is not the Council.

If we call you regarding your application for funding, we would NOT ask for your bank details. You should not provide your bank details over the phone. Successful applications will receive an email with an attached letter indicating the amount awarded. If you receive one of these calls, please report it to us via the Citizens Advice Consumer Service online or by calling 0808 223 133. They will then pass the report through to Trading Standards.
