Keeping Safe: Contraception

There are 14 methods of contraception to choose from. Different methods suit different people, but we would not recommend withdrawal (taking the penis out of the vagina before ejaculation) as a method of contraception. Individual advice on contraception is available from:

  • your GP
  • another GP (registering for family planning only)
  • a Brook Centre (for young people under 25)
  • a family planning or CASH (contraception and sexual health) clinic

Remember....You are the only one who can decide when you are ready to have sex. Take control of your sexual health and plan your preferred choice of contraception.

Contraception is free on the NHS and advice will be confidential. To find out more about your right to confidentiality go to the Your Right to Confidentiality page.
